Carol Graney

VP, Academic Affairs at The University of the Arts

Carol Graney is Vice President for Academic Affairs. Prior to being appointed to the position in 2019, she was Associate Provost and Director of University Libraries for ten years and was appointed Director of University Libraries in 1998. Other leadership positions held in the University Libraries include Associate Director of Libraries and Head of Technical Services. She began her library career as a librarian at the Philadelphia Museum of Art.

Graney is responsible for academic policies and activities across the University, and oversees the colleges and academic support units including the University Libraries, Registrar, and Learning Assessment. She has served on many standing and ad hoc University committees since 1986 including the University Committee on Academic Policy, Committee on Instruction, Educational Policy Committee, Center for Teaching and Learning Advisory Committee, Intellectual Property Policy Committee, Campus Standards Committee, Records Retention Policy Committee, Strategic Planning committees, and search committees for academic and administrative leadership positions. She has also served on committees for reaccreditation reviews by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education and National Association of Schools of Art and Design.

She has been an active member of the Art Libraries Society of North America (ARLIS/NA) and served twice on its executive board between 2003 and 2017, most recently as ARLIS/NA’s first editorial director. She has chaired and served on numerous ARLIS/NA committees including the Strategic Plan Committee, Professional Development Committee, and Communications and Publications Committee. She was co-chair for an ARLIS/NA national conference and was a president of the Delaware Valley Chapter.

Graney earned a Master of Science from Drexel University and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Syracuse University.
