John Thayer

John Thayer has extensive experience in the field of broadcast operations and production. John began their career at Jones Intercable, US Cable & Various Freelance in 1982, where they worked as a Director, Technical Director, Audio Engineer, Photographer, and Cameraman. In 1984, they joined WCFC as a Master Control and Production Engineer, and later took on the role of Technical Director and Cameraman. John then worked at WFLD Fox O&O as a Cameraman and A2. In 1988, they joined WPEC-TV 12 CBS as a Master Control, Satellite, and ENG Truck Operator. From 1993 to 2023, they worked at The Weather Channel in various roles, including Director of Field and Remote Technology, Director of Broadcast Operations, Video Acquisition & Distribution, and Senior Manager of Broadcast Operations, Projects & Training. Throughout their career, John has demonstrated expertise in managing budgets, overseeing technical projects, and directing live broadcasts.

John Thayer attended Grayslake Community High School from 1978 to 1982. John then pursued higher education at Columbia College Chicago from 1982 to 1986, majoring in Broadcast. In addition, they also attended College of Lake County, although the specific dates and field of study are unknown.
