Tia Johnson has extensive work experience in the field of art directing and design. Tia started their career in 1995 at Island Def Jam as a Senior Art Director, where they conceptualized packaging for artists' CDs, LPs, and DVDs. Tia also created logos and visual brand identities for high-profile artists like Ludacris and NeYo. In 1999, Tia started their own design company called Big Up Design. Later on, they worked as a Freelance Art Director at various companies including The XD Agency, OK Magazine, Compound Entertainment / Def Jam, and Aeropostale. Throughout their career, Tia has developed in-store campaigns, signage, and collateral, and has created original typographic solutions and hand-drawn illustrations for promotional materials and campaigns. Tia has also worked as a Freelance Designer at Island Records and has consistently been recognized for their outstanding work.
Tia Johnson began their education in 1988 at the Fashion Institute of Technology, where they pursued an Associate of Arts (AA) degree in Photography. Tia completed their studies there in 1990. Subsequently, from 1990 to 1992, Tia attended New York University, earning their Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree with a focus on Photography. Continuing their educational journey, they then joined Pratt Institute in 1993, where they pursued a Master of Arts (MA) degree in Communications Design with a specialization in Graphic Design. Tia successfully completed their studies at Pratt Institute in 1996.
