The Associate Production Manager plays a pivotal role within TheatreSquared, serving as a full-time member of the staff and an integral part of the Production team and is supervised by the Director of Production. This position requires a commitment to fostering a safe and supportive environment for theatrical creation.

This position works closely with and is supervised by the Director of Production in the management of the production department as a whole. While the department director is primarily responsible for working ahead and prepping for upcoming shows and future seasons, the APM focuses on managing shows that are actively in production. Additionally, the APM is the direct supervisor for the stage management teams.

In addition to proficiency in stage management, the ideal candidate should possess a positive and outgoing attitude, along with strong leadership qualities and a collaborative work ethic.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Supervision & Planning

  • Supervise and onboard stage management teams composed of guest and seasonal positions.
  • Assist in hiring and supervising production personnel, including crew members, overhire staff, and volunteers.
  • Works with the Director of Production, Costumes Director, and the Stage Management Team to assure that all crew positions are appropriately filled and that crew members are informed of their schedules and responsibilities, including replacement and understudy crew positions.
  • Act as the understudy for production stage managers, learning to call the show in case of planned or emergency absences.

Logistics & Scheduling

  • Collaborate with the Director of Production to plan, coordinate, and execute all aspects of theatrical productions and special events, from pre-production to post-production as well as within the production department as a whole.
  • Coordinate and create production calendars, schedules, and timelines.
  • Coordinate logistics for rehearsals, performances, and other production-related events.
  • Schedule, run, and/or attend production meetings and tech notes sessions.
  • Assist in managing production budgets, tracking expenses, and ensuring cost-effectiveness.

Policy & Procedure

  • Resolve production-related issues, troubleshooting technical problems, and providing creative solutions as needed.

  • Attend department and full staff meetings as required.

  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, overseeing risk management procedures, and promoting a safe working environment.

  • Support the Director of Production in any other tasks related to the successful execution of theatrical productions.

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

  • Previous experience working as a stage manager.

  • Ability to adapt to changing circumstances and think creatively to solve problems; possess an open-minded approach to new ideas and challenges.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize tasks effectively.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and stakeholders.

  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by production schedules.

  • Commitment to upholding high standards of artistic excellence, professionalism, and inclusivity.

  • Comfortable creating and maintaining production department paperwork and files.

  • Proficiency in computer document and spreadsheet software.

DESIRABLE SKILL SETS:

  • Previous experience working in production management.
  • Previous experience working with union contracts (AEA, IATSE, USA) contracts.
  • Previous experience working in theatrical shops and/or as a theatrical technician.
  • Comfort working at heights.
  • Valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation (preferred)

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

This permanent, full-time, exempt position includes an annual salary range of $47,000 - $53,000, commensurate with experience, and full benefits. These benefits include health; dental; 25 paid time off days annually; 9 paid holidays; paid parental leave; employer-sponsored long-term and short-term disability; $100,000 in employer-sponsored term life insurance; and matched 401(k).
