Ilana Soumekhian

Community Engagement Manager at Therify

Ilana Soumekhian has a diverse background in social work and healthcare. Ilana is currently working as a Clinical Operations Lead at Therify, where they use their clinical knowledge to match Therify members with licensed providers. Ilana also collaborates with the Product team to enhance Therify's Employee Resource Group offerings and matching technology. Additionally, they provide clinical insight to Therify's Go To Market team for the creation of the company's social media presence.

Before joining Therify, Ilana worked as an Oncology Social Worker and Behavioral Health Coordinator at the University of Maryland Medical Center from 2019 to 2022. In this role, they conducted surveys and needs assessments for future patient support groups and initiated a program to provide iPads to radiation oncology patients without access to telehealth during the COVID-19 pandemic. Ilana also facilitated a research trial in the Rad Oncology Department.

Prior to their position at the University of Maryland, Ilana served as a Medicine/Surgical Unit Social Worker and Behavioral Health Coordinator at Virginia Mason Medical Center from 2018 to 2019. Here, they provided counseling and therapy to patients with behavioral health disorders and helped them transition to inpatient substance use treatment.

Ilana's earlier experience includes working as a Social Work Fellow at the University of Michigan School of Social Work from 2016 to 2018, where they developed leadership skills and engaged with the Jewish community. Ilana also worked as a Medical Social Work Intern at Michigan Medicine from 2017 to 2017, providing support and counseling to patients and families in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology and Blood and Marrow Transplant, as well as in the Perinatal Clinic.

In 2016, Ilana interned at Monomyth Collaborative as a Marketing Intern, assisting with website management, content curation, and social media efforts. Ilana also gained experience as a Social Work Intern at Sojourner Truth Neighborhood Center in 2015.

Ilana Soumekhian began their education at the University of Michigan in 2012, where they pursued a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) with Honors in Psychology and Community Action & Social Change. Ilana successfully completed their undergraduate studies in 2016. Afterward, Ilana furthered their education at the University of Michigan and enrolled in the Master of Social Work (MSW) program, specializing in Interpersonal Practice and Community & Social Systems. Ilana pursued their MSW degree from 2016 to 2018.

In addition to their academic achievements, Ilana Soumekhian has obtained various certifications. In March 2021, they became a Licensed Clinical Social Worker through the Maryland Department of Health. Furthermore, in March 2022, they obtained certifications in the Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act - Business Associates V2.2 and Preventing Discrimination & Harassment in Healthcare: US Employees V4.01 from Traliant.
