Alan Sachs

Chief Medical Officer at Thermo Fisher Scientific

Alan Sachs joined the company as Chief Scientific Officer for Life Sciences Solutions, through the acquisition of Life Technologies in 2014. In 2016, ha becama Chief Scientific Officer far Thermo Fisher, leading R&D innovation across the company. In July 2021 , he was named to the newly established role of Chief Medical Officer to support customers wha are developing groundbreaking medicines and diagnostics. In this role, Alan is responsible for identifying and promoting adoption of naw technologies that benefit customers in the clinical space. He also leads the company's medical affairs program.

Before joining Thermo Fisher, Alan spent 10 years with Merck Research Laboratories, mast recently serving as Vice President and Global Head, Exploratory and Translational Sciences. He began his career as a Fellow at the Whitehead Institute for Biomedical Research and then served as Assistant and Associate Professor in the Department of Molecular and Call Biology at the University of California, Berkeley. Alan holds a bachelors degree in biochemistry from Cornell University, as well as a Ph.D. in cell biology and a medical degree from Stanford Medical School.
