Hal Garland

Hal Garland has a diverse work experience, with their most recent role at Tide as an Advanced Senior Software Engineer. In this position, they served as a Backend Engineer for the SAPIs team and was responsible for Identity and Access management (IAM). Hal had experience with OAuth2, OIDC, and WebAuthn, and also took ownership of the API Gateway. Prior to this, Hal worked as a Senior Software Engineer at Tide, where they continued their work with OAuth2, OIDC, and WebAuthn, and was responsible for the API Gateway. Hal utilized a tech stack that included Java 17, Spring Boot, SQS/SNS, K8s, and PostgreSQL. Before joining Tide, Hal worked as a Software Engineer at Worldpay and as a Graduate Software Engineer. Hal also had experience as a Student Ambassador at the University of York and as a Computational Magnetism Research Intern at the Department of Physics, University of York.

Hal Garland completed their education with a Master of Physics (MPhys) degree in Physics from the University of York, from the year 2015 to 2019. Prior to this, Hal attended The King's School, Ottery St Mary, where they pursued A Levels & GCSEs, although the specific duration of their studies at this institution is unknown. Additionally, Hal has obtained certifications, including an Oracle Certified Associate, Java SE 8 Programmer from Oracle in June 2021, and a Certified SAFe® 4 Practitioner from Scaled Agile, Inc. in December 2019.
