Brent Graveland has over 20 years of experience in the software engineering and IT fields. From 1998 to 2000, they worked as a Unix Systems Administrator at JRC Canada, responsible for Solaris and SCO servers and workstations, network administration, and developing custom database applications in C. From 2000 to 2004, they were a Senior Software Engineer at Symantec, spending the first two years as a Senior Vulnerability Analyst and the last three years programming automation tools and applications. From 2004 to 2009, they worked as a Technical Writer and Threat Analyst at Symantec. From 2009 to 2015, they were a Senior Systems Administrator and Programmer at Whipcord, leading a small team of developers and working on projects involving consuming and providing HTTP APIs. From 2015 to 2019, they were a Lead Software Architect at Verge, where they architected and developed GIS path-planning algorithms and most of the back-end services. Brent also implemented and operated a private cloud hosting Kubernetes clusters and utilized infrastructure-as-code. From 2019 to 2022, they have been a Senior Software Engineer at Timescale.

Brent Graveland attended The University of Lethbridge from 1995 to 1998, studying Computer Science.
