Layla Avila has extensive experience in the education sector. Layla is currently the CEO/Executive Director of Education Leaders of Color (EdLoC) since 2016. Prior to that, they had various roles at TNTP, including Chief of Staff and Executive Vice President of Strategic Projects, Executive Vice President of Partnerships, Executive Vice President of New Teacher Effectiveness, and VP of Teaching Fellows Programs. Layla has been with TNTP since 2007 and has been responsible for leading efforts to broaden impact through strategic partnerships, overseeing new business development, federal partnerships, organizational accountability, and teaching fellows programs.

Layla Avila completed their BA in Economics at Columbia University from 1991 to 1995. Layla then pursued further education at the Harvard Kennedy School, where they obtained an MPP in Education Policy from 1995 to 1997.
