Thomas Scott has a diverse and extensive work experience history. Thomas is currently serving as the Chief Legal Officer & Corporate Secretary at Tools for Humanity, a technology company focused on creating a more just economic system. Additionally, Thomas is a Founding Member of TechGC, a position they have held since 2021.
Prior to their current roles, Thomas worked at Cruise, where they held various legal positions. As Lead Counsel, they provided generalist counsel to support the company's engineering and business teams as they developed autonomous vehicle technology for rideshare and delivery models. Thomas also served as Senior Counsel and Counsel during their time at Cruise.
Before joining Cruise, Thomas worked as an Associate at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, where they focused on multi-jurisdictional investigations and white-collar criminal defense, with a particular emphasis on Swiss financial institutions. During this time, they also engaged in pro bono work, including international representations involving the death penalty and asylum cases.
Thomas has also held positions at the Constitutional Court of South Africa, the U.S. District Court, and the U.S. Court of Appeals, where they served as a Foreign Law Clerk, Judicial Clerk, and Judicial Clerk, respectively.
In addition to their legal career, Thomas has experience in policy work as an Intern at The White House, where they supported the Senior Policy Advisor for Native American Affairs and collaborated on various issues related to health, education, the environment, economic opportunity, and law enforcement.
Earlier in their career, Thomas worked as a Summer Associate at Kellogg, Huber, Hansen, Todd, Evans & Figel, and as a Legal Consultant for the Special Court for Sierra Leone, where they were part of the defense team in the trial of former Liberian President Charles G. Taylor for war crimes and crimes against humanity.

Thomas Scott attended the University of South Carolina from 2002 to 2006, where they earned a Bachelor's degree in Economics, Development, and African Studies. Thomas then went on to pursue a Juris Doctor degree at Stanford Law School from 2007 to 2011. During this time, they also pursued a Master's degree in Public Affairs with a focus on International Development at Princeton University from 2009 to 2011.
