Tony Veneziano

Chief Administrative Officer, Corporate Services Command at Toronto Police Service

Tony Veneziano was appointed Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) of the Toronto Police Service on December 12, 2005. In his role as CAO, Tony oversees the Toronto Police Service’s annual operating and capital budget processes. He is also responsible for information technology services as well as facilities management, procurement, payroll, benefits and accounting services. Human Resources, which is comprised of labour relations, employment, occupational health and safety, performance management, psychological services and diversity, also report to him.

Tony holds a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA, CGA) designation. Prior to joining the Toronto Police Service, Tony was with the former Regional Municipality of Metropolitan Toronto and current City of Toronto for 20 years, where he moved up progressively through the organizations. In his last position at the City of Toronto he was a member of the City’s senior management team and, as the Director, Internal Audit, reported directly to the City Manager. He also worked as a Director in the City Auditor General’s Office, reporting directly to the City Auditor General.

While with the former Metro Toronto regional government, Tony led the consolidation of various administrative functions, which resulted in significant annual savings. At the City of Toronto, he oversaw the completion of a number of reviews that resulted in significant cost savings and revenue enhancements, improved operational effectiveness and the mitigation of risks in the organization. Some of the reviews completed include: the Toronto Police Service’s handling of the public complaints process; the food safety and tuberculosis programs in Toronto Public Health; the City of Toronto’s procurement process; the Toronto Police Helicopter Evaluation project; the City’s commercial garbage collection process; councillor expenses and use of corporate vehicles; and various contract management audits. Tony established the internal audit function at the City, managed various forensic investigations, and oversaw the implementation of the City of Toronto’s fraud and waste hotline - the first hotline of its kind in Canada.

Tony is a member of the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police, the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police, the International Association of Chiefs of Police and the Major City Chiefs Association Human Resources Committee. He is an Executive member on the Board of Directors of the Children’s Aid Society of Toronto, and is the Chair of their Audit and Finance Committee.

Tony is also the recipient of the Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Medal for his outstanding contributions to the Toronto Police Service and the City of Toronto.

Tony is experienced in dealing with highly sensitive and complex issues, and is a results-oriented and proactive leader. He has promoted continuous improvement and value for money thinking across the Toronto Police Service; and has led the movement towards the effective management of people, projects, contracts, operations and assets. Tony exemplifies high ethical standards, and actively reinforces the importance of transparency, integrity, accountability and fiscal responsibility in carrying out his responsibilities with the Toronto Police Service.
