James Smith

James L. Smith is an experienced municipal leader currently serving as the Town Manager for the Town of Bar Harbor since November 2023. Prior to this role, James L. Smith worked as the Assistant City Manager for the City of Brewer from January 2014 to November 2023 and previously held the position of City Manager for the City of Rockland from 2012 to 2014. James L. Smith also served as Assistant City Manager in Brewer from 2007 to 2012 and as Town Manager for the Town of Oakfield in 2006-2007. In addition to extensive local government experience, James L. Smith is a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, where responsibilities included leadership roles and participation in various military operations, including counter-narcotics, peacekeeping, and counter-terrorism missions across multiple global locations. James L. Smith holds a Bachelor's degree in Public Administration from the University of Maine.
