Shawn Meerkamper

Shawn Meerkamper is a legal professional with extensive experience in advocacy for marginalized communities. Currently serving as the Managing Attorney at Transgender Law Center since June 2016, Shawn leads efforts to empower transgender and gender nonconforming individuals through legal advocacy grounded in racial justice. Previous roles include Senior Staff Attorney and Staff Attorney at the ACLU of Nevada, where Shawn focused on civil rights protection, and a Fellow at Transgender Law Center, contributing to policy change and anti-discrimination efforts. Early career experiences include volunteering at various organizations such as A New Way of Life Reentry Project and the National Day Laborer Organizing Network, as well as clerking at the ACLU of Tennessee. Shawn holds a Juris Doctor degree in Critical Race Studies from the University of California, Los Angeles, and a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and Political Science from The George Washington University.
