Seán Whelan

Director, Business Intelligence And Analytics at Transitions Optical

Seán Whelan has extensive work experience in various roles and companies. Seán started their career as a Process Metallurgist at British Aluminium in 1997 and then moved to Alcoa as a Works Metallurgist from 1999 to 2002.

Seán then joined CSO (Central Statistics Office) as a Statistician from 2002 to 2004.

In 2004, Seán Whelan joined Transitions Optical where they held several positions. Seán started as a Quality Engineer from 2004 to 2007 and then worked as a Lean Sigma Engineer from 2007 to 2009.

Seán was promoted to the role of Global Trans-Bonding Process Manager from 2009 to 2012, where they were responsible for driving key Continuous Improvement initiatives across multiple manufacturing sites.

From 2013 to 2015, Seán Whelan became the Global Trans-Bonding Process Manager and relocated to the Thailand facility to focus on supporting and developing regional engineering talent.

From 2015 to 2017, they served as the Global Manager for Operational Research and Business Excellence, leading initiatives in areas such as customer value, business process excellence, and people development.

In August 2017, Seán Whelan was promoted to the role of Senior Global Analytics, Insights, and Strategic Business Development Manager. Finally, in December 2019, they assumed their current position as the Director of Business Intelligence and Analytics at Transitions Optical.

Seán Whelan began their education at The University of Manchester, where they pursued a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry & Physics from 1992 to 1995. Following this, they attended the University of Limerick from 1995 to 1997 and completed their Master of Science degree in Advanced Materials.
