Sean Poust

Principal Scientist – Head of Screening Assays at TRex Bio

Sean Poust has a wide range of work experience, beginning in 2007 as an Engineer at Carollo Engineers. In 2009, they moved to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign as an M.Eng. Student, and then to UC Berkeley in 2010 as a Graduate Student Researcher (PhD). In 2015, they became a Postdoctoral Fellow at UCSF, where they developed a droplet generation technique and an air/water method to halt leakage of hydrophobic molecules. In 2016, they joined Zymergen, Inc. as a Scientist II - Assay Development, where they developed software tools and managed the activities of two research associates. In 2019, they moved to System1 Biosciences as a Senior Scientist, where they developed a modular stack-based approach to automate cell culture feeding. Finally, in 2020, they joined ArsenalBio as a Senior Scientist, High Throughput Assays Group Lead, where they enabled arrayed screening of 1000s of unique circuit designs, recruited a team of 2 senior research associates and 2 senior/principal scientists, and discovered novel costimulatory domains. In 2022, they moved to TRexBio as Principal Scientist – Head of Screening Assays.

Sean Poust received a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Chemical Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley in 2015. Prior to that, they earned a Master of Engineering (M.Eng.) in Environmental Engineering from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in 2010. Sean completed their undergraduate studies in 2007, earning a BS with Highest Honors in Civil Engineering from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
