Medior Software Developer

Engineering · Full-time · Budapest, Hungary

Job description

Join our team as a Medior Software Developer and help us understand and tackle cancer!

Turbine was founded on the premise that a predictive, computational model of biology would revolutionize drug discovery much like computer aided design software transformed engineering. Through millions of simulated experiments, Turbine finds the shortest, safest route for new therapies to reach patients, enabling researchers to focus their resources on fighting disease in the most efficient way possible.

As a Medior Software Developer, you'll join our Model Release Team to build simulated cell models and its tooling we create for our upcoming internal and external projects. In an interdisciplinary team of a mixture of computational biologists and software engineers, you'll have the opportunity to work closely with ML experts and tackle hard, unsolved machine learning problems heavily infused with biology. You'll be in a key role to write production grade massively scalable software and streamline our processes.

Apply if you are excited to take part in building a company at the bleeding edge of bioscience and technology.

What we expect?

  • 2-4 years of experience in software engineering, including writing production code
  • solid coding skills in Python
  • fast learner and an ability to catch the essence of a complex system or a process
  • able to solve abstract problems without an imperative specification (instead of micromanaging, we discuss WHY something is needed and let you come up with your own solutions and request support proactively)
  • an iterative mindset in the development, with good estimation skills (we are following agile methodologies, and have a code review culture)
  • eager to proactively contribute to the planning of our research roadmap; you'll have an impact on defining our next step
  • fluent in English, both spoken and written; great collaboration skills in an agile environment

Nice to have:

  • experience in processing large datasets (pandas, polars, Spark, SQL, TensorFlow/PyTorch)
  • familiarity with DevOps techniques (e.g. Python package management, Docker, Microsoft Azure, GitHub)
  • fundamental ML knowledge - statistical modeling basics, train/test split, bias/variance tradeoff, model evaluation metrics

What we offer?

  • a place to use your software engineering skills to advance medical research

  • a gateway into the field of biotechnology; if you'd like, you can learn about bioinformatics, cellular biology, drug research, and the use of AI in biotech during your everyday job

  • a cutting-edge cloud and data stack where you'll work with today's hot technologies: scientific Python, Databricks, Microsoft Azure, GitHub, and so on

  • a cohesive, mid-size engineering organization with several teams and a democratic decision-making culture

  • a competitive salary and additional benefits

  • choose your own workstyle: we support office and remote work as well

You are a Turbiner if these personality traits apply to you

  • You have self-awareness and strong intention on personal growth

  • You seek out feedback and learn from mistakes and apply what you learned

  • You take responsibility and focus on the outcomes over tasks

  • You focus on shared success and are open to challenging others respectfully to get the best possible outcome

  • You are in it for the long haul and have passion for our mission
