Jon Udell has a diverse work experience spanning several industries. Jon is currently working at Turbot as the Community lead for Turbot's steampipe.io project. Prior to this, they worked at Hypothes.is for six years as the Director of Integration, where they had various responsibilities such as building internal and customer-facing analytics, exploring uses of annotation, building prototypes, and collaborating with partners. Jon also worked as a Contributing Editor at InfoWorld, where they wrote a series of columns about collaboration in distributed software teams. At Microsoft, they served as an Evangelist for seven years, working on projects like Thali and the OpenData protocol. Jon also worked as an Interviewer and Producer at ITConversations, a Lead Analyst and Blogger-in-chief at InfoWorld, and a Freelance Project Manager at Safari Books Online. Earlier in their career, they were the Executive Editor, Columnist, and Web Architect at BYTE Magazine, where they built and operated the BYTE website and utilized Internet technologies for team collaboration. Jon also held a managerial role at Lotus Development Corp. as the Manager of Application Software Development.
Jon Udell completed their Bachelor of Arts degree in Literature at the University of Michigan from 1974 to 1979. Jon then pursued further education and attained a Master of Arts in Writing Seminars from The Johns Hopkins University from 1984 to 1985.
