Andrew Burns

Andrew Burns, Ph.D. has diverse work experience in various industries. Andrew is currently a Senior Engineer at Turnstone Biologics since 2023. From 2020 to 2023, they worked at Fate Therapeutics Inc as a Process Innovation Engineer III and a Process Development Scientist, where they optimized technology for novel cell therapies and supported cellular immunotherapy programs.

Before that, they worked at Keck Graduate Institute from 2014 to 2020, holding roles such as City of Hope Postdoctoral Researcher, Visiting Scholar, Postdoctoral Researcher, and Ph.D. Candidate. During this time, they conducted research in stem cell bioreactors, investigated cell behavior and growth, and trained students in cell culture.

In 2015, Andrew also had a role as a Physician's Shadow at Regenerative Medical Group, where they observed regenerative amniotic stem cell treatments. Andrew also volunteered in dental clinics in Honduras and as an Emergency Room Volunteer at California Pacific Medical Center in 2014 and 2013, respectively.

As an Undergraduate Researcher at UC Merced from 2011 to 2013, they focused on pluripotent stem cell growth and differentiation. Additionally, they conducted research as a Researcher at the Center for the Integration of Nanoparticles in 2012.

Andrew's work experience also includes volunteering as a Radiology Tech at California Pacific Medical Center in 2010 and working as a Sailing Instructor at the San Francisco Yacht Club from 2007 to 2010. Overall, Andrew Burns, Ph.D. has demonstrated expertise in process engineering, bioreactors, stem cell research, and clinical observation across multiple industries.

Andrew Burns, Ph.D. has a strong educational background in the field of life sciences. Andrew received their Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Biological Sciences with a Human Emphasis from the University of California, Merced, in the years 2009 to 2013.

Subsequently, they pursued a Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Applied Life Sciences, with a specific focus on Bioprocessing, at the Keck Graduate Institute from 2013 to 2016. Building upon their master's degree, Andrew then went on to earn a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) from the same institution in the years 2016 to 2019. Their Ph.D. program had an emphasis in Stem Cell Engineering within the field of Applied Life Sciences.

In addition to their degrees, Andrew Burns has obtained certifications to further their knowledge and expertise. In 2012, they completed the Basic Animal Handling certification from the Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative. Andrew also acquired the Protecting Human Research Participants certification from the National Institutes of Health in November 2013.
