Andi Maehara Rooney has worked in a variety of roles since 2010. Andi began their career as a File Clerk at Nelson Levine de Luca & Horst in 2010, followed by a Victim Advocate at the Women and Gender Advocacy Center in the same year. In 2012, they were a Congressional Intern for Senator Michael F. Bennet in the United States Senate, and a 4th Grade Teacher in the Holmes County School District. In 2014, they became a Manager of Values, Diversity, and Culture and Manager of Teacher Leadership at Teach For America. In 2015, they were an Instructor at the Graduate School of Education at Johns Hopkins University. In 2016, they were a Director of Special Projects and a Field Organizer for the Democratic Caucus at Hillary for America. In 2017, they were a Legislative Aide for Education, Arts and Humanities, and Tourism Policy Issues in the United States Senate, as well as a Manager in the Assembly Leadership Office at the Nevada State Legislature. In 2022, they became the Chief of Staff at Tutored by Teachers.

Andi Maehara Rooney holds a Master of Education from Harvard University, where they studied Language Acquisition, Indigenous Music and Languages, and Music Technology. Andi also holds a B.A. in Journalism and Technical Communication from Colorado State University, with a focus in Psychology and Dance. Additionally, they have obtained a Standard K-6 Elementary Education License from the Hawaii Teacher Standards Board in April 2018, and a 4-6 Class A Standard Teaching License from the Mississippi Department of Education in June 2013.
