Brian Nelson

Under Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence at U.S. Department of the Treasury

Brian Nelson is currently the Under Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence at the U.S. Department of the Treasury. Prior to this, they served as the Chief Legal Officer and Corporate Secretary for LA28 from September 2017 to September 2021. Brian also served as the Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary for LA 2024 / LA 2028 Exploratory Committee from September 2015 to September 2017.

From July 2011 to September 2015, Brian Nelson was the General Counsel for the California Department of Justice. Before that, they served as Special Counsel to the Assistant Attorney General for National Security at the U.S. Department of Justice from April 2009 to May 2010. Brian then worked as an Associate at Sidley Austin LLP from December 2006 to April 2009.

In January 2018, Brian Nelson became the State Chair for Senator Kamala Harris’ Judicial Commission. Brian served in this role until January 2019. Brian also served as Deputy Chief of Staff for the National Security Division at the U.S. Department of Justice from May 2010 to June 2011. Prior to that, they worked as a Law Clerk for Chambers of Louis H. Pollak from August 2005 to August 2006 and Chambers of William A. Fletcher from September 2004 to August 2005.

Brian Nelson's education career began at Upland High School. Brian then went on to get their BA in Communications & American Literature from the University of California, Los Angeles. After that, they attended Yale Law School.

Their manager is Janet Yellen, Secretary. They are on a team with Wally Adeyemo - Deputy Secretary, Didem Nisanci - Chief of Staff, and Nellie Liang - Under Secretary for Domestic Finance.
