Scope of Work

Introduction to Ubongo

UBONGO is Africa's leading producer of kids' edutainment. As a non-profit social enterprise, we create fun, localised and multi-platform educational content that helps kids learn, and leverage their learning to change their lives. Our shows - Ubongo Kids, Nuzo and Namia and Akili and Me - currently air in 41 countries across Africa, in Swahili, English, French, Hausa, Yoruba, Luo, Kikuyu, Chichewa and Kinyarwanda. We are currently adapting the shows to even more languages.. We are also creating a variety of digital products that enable kids to engage further with our stories.

What we are looking for in brief

We are looking for a team of software engineers/app developers to build an app for our new show Nuzo and Namia. Working with Ubongo won’t be easy, but it will challenge and excite you with lots of responsibilities, plenty of fun, and give you the opportunity to impact the lives of millions of kids.

Context of Work

Ubongo Digital Team

Ubongo has a small team of digital professionals who work to set and implement a strategy focused on maximizing the engagement of kids in quality digital educational products. Our product team includes skills like strategy, project management, design and some technical capacity (in software engineering and app development). We have a clear vision for what we want to achieve and we are full of ambitious ideas for how to achieve it. As a small team, what we are lacking is the person-power to bring these ideas to reality, and that is where you come in…

The Nuzo and Namia App

The App is an adaptation from the animated show with the focus on providing a more immersive experience on learning different african cultures and developing reading and listening comprehension skills.

The App has a game-like structure and interface in which the player has to complete different activities to win rewards. These activities are like mini-games with each having an emphasis on a certain learning objective. Some of the activities are based on popular games like the memory card game, i spy, hopscotch etc

A version of this app already exists meaning you will work on an existing, well written and documented codebase

Expected Deliverables and Activities:

  • Create 3 new activities for the Nuzo and Namia app by working closely with the product lead who will provide the resources and support you need to build these activities.

  • These game activities should  be scalable, fit on our current infrastructure on the app and reuse assets.

  • Seamlessly Integrate  the activities into the current app and work on the current app version to improve navigation and user experience.

  • Incorporate PDF-formatted eBooks into the application, ensuring an exceptional user experience through intuitive navigation and seamless interaction.

TO BE A MATCH, YOU OR YOUR TEAM WILL NEED TO BE:

  • Experienced Software Engineers/App developers
