Our show’s Ubongo Kids and Akili and Me currently air in 23 countries across Africa, in Swahili, English, French, Kinyarwanda, Kikuyu, Luo, Yoruba, Hausa, Chichewa, and Juba Arabic. 

Job Position: We are looking for a Merchandise Handler.  Working at Ubongo won’t be easy, but it will challenge and excite you with lots of responsibilities, plenty of fun, and give you the opportunity to impact the lives of millions of kids every day. 

We’re looking for a dynamic, creative and flexible Merchandise Handler to expand and improve our merchandise department. You’ll work closely with our Commercial Revenue Manager and Senior Campaigns Manager to support merchandise goals and oversee other related activity

NOTE: This job role is based in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Only applicants currently located here will be considered

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Oversee SKU levels and allocations to ensure optimal stock availability while minimizing overstock or stockouts.

  • Work with the senior campaign manager to monitor and analyze the effectiveness of visual merchandising initiatives and make adjustments as needed.

  • User testing merchandise and recording feedback.

  • Monitor and track the movement of merchandise shipments to ensure timely delivery.

  • Communicate with distributors and partners to confirm receipt of merchandise and address any issues or concerns.

  • Work with the commercial revenue manager to build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and vendors to ensure favorable terms, product quality, and timely delivery.

  • Conduct regular vendor performance reviews and provide feedback to suppliers to improve collaboration and outcomes.

  • Conduct market research and trend analysis to anticipate consumer preferences and emerging product categories.

  • Support in procurement of merchandise for internal staff and events

  • Organize and maintain inventory of merchandise in the store, ensuring proper storage and handling procedures.

  • Coordinate with logistics providers to arrange transportation of merchandise to designated distributors and partners.

  • Conduct quality checks on merchandise to ensure adherence to brand standards and regulatory requirements.

  • Conduct regular stock audits to reconcile physical inventory with system records and identify discrepancies.

  • Generate reports on merchandise sales, inventory levels, and distribution activities for management review.

  • Assist in resolving any logistical or operational challenges related to merchandise distribution.

  • Receive incoming merchandise shipments and verify their accuracy against purchase orders.

  • Prepare merchandise for distribution by packaging items according to predefined standards.

REQUIREMENT:KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE and QUALIFICATIONSESSENTIALS:

  • Proven sales or business skills
  • Project management skills
  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office
  • Must be highly motivated, proactive, self-starter with high energy and team spirit
  • Excellent presentation skills, including the ability to lead discussions and interact with senior managers(internally and externally)
  • Strong financial and analytical skills; ability to create internal and external reports
  • Ability to forecast issues in projects, troubleshoot, and problem solve with internal constituents and external partners
  • Business oriented thinking, understanding of sale agreements
  • Organized, rigorous, creative, autonomous, you show initiative and have good interpersonal skills to join our team.
  • Team player
  • Fluent in Kiswahili and English
  • Be willing to wear many hats!

PREFERRED:

  • At least 1 years experience in business and or sales

  • Background in projects that deal with logistics

  • High school Diploma

  • Should be ready to start in July 2024
