Marta Walczak

Senior Scientist at Ultima Genomics

Marta Walczak is a Senior Scientist at Ultima Genomics since January 2022, specializing in the biogenesis of the apicoplast organelle in the malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum and the role of the autophagy protein Atg8 in apicoplast inheritance. Previously, Marta served as a Life Science Research Scientist and Postdoctoral Researcher at Stanford University from June 2015 to December 2021, conducting research on autophagosome formation mechanisms. Marta began their research career as a PhD student at Max F. Perutz Laboratories, where significant contributions were made to understanding protein complex interactions related to autophagy. Prior experiences include roles at EMBL, University College Dublin, BioCentrum-DTU, and VIB, focusing on various aspects of molecular and cellular biology. Marta holds a PhD in Molecular Biology from the University of Vienna and an MSc in Biotechnology from Lodz University of Technology.
