Position Summary:

Ultragenyx has multiple Gene Therapy programs in development in the rare and ultrarare disease space, and a robust pipeline. We are building a state of the art GMP manufacturing facility in Bedford, MA. Join our team!

We will assess your level based on your experience before moving forward with full panel interviews.

The candidate will support advancement of innovative AAV-based therapeutics through development and execution of a variety of research methods including molecular and biochemical techniques, mammalian cell culture, and cell-based assays.

Work Model:

Core Lab & Ops: This role typically requires that the majority of the work be conducted on-site and thus will be subject to certain on-site safety protocols during the pandemic.

Responsibilities:

  • Independently develop, qualify and/or execute analytical methods to measure and monitor key quality attributes for AAV therapeutic materials.
  • Design, develop, and/or execute cell-based and molecular analytical test methods to support characterization and development of AAV pipeline candidates, and further understanding of mechanism of action of potential therapeutic products.
  • Work independently and proactively to optimize and troubleshoot analytical assays.
  • Evaluate and implement new analytical instrumentation and new technologies.
  • Mentor junior staff in execution of cell-based and molecular analytical test methods to support AAV manufacturing platform development.
  • Communicate results and research progress during team and departmental meetings, including to senior leadership, as well as participate in scientific conferences.
  • Prepare, write, analyze, review, and present technical data and reports.
  • Work as part of a cross-functional team to drive innovation in a scientifically stimulating, patient-focused research environment.

Requirements:

  • SRA II: MS in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Biochemistry or a related discipline with 4+ years relevant experience, or BS with 6+ years relevant experience.
  • PRAI: MS in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Biochemistry or a related discipline with 6+ years relevant experience, or BS with 8+ years relevant experience.
  • Expertise in qPCR, ddPCR, gel electrophoresis methods is required.
  • Proficiency with mammalian cell culture, cell- or plate-based assays is required.
  • Strong knowledge of molecular biology, immunoassays, protein biochemistry, or biophysical characterization is a must.
  • Expertise in DNA/RNA extractions and gene expression analysis is preferred.
  • Experience with CE-SDS, MSD ELISA, and AUC is preferred.
  • Experience with AAV or other viral vectors is preferred.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, start-up environment.
  • Strong collaboration, team-working skills, and communication skills.
  • Self-driven and detail-oriented with excellent problem-solving ability.

Physical Demands/Work Environment/Safety Considerations:

  • Stand for extended periods of time with periodic stooping/bending / kneeling.
  • Able to lift, push, pull up to 50lbs
  • Climb ladders and stairs of various heights.
  • Work in a lab environment requiring special protective clothing over the head, face, hands, feet, and body. This role requires the ability to wear personal protective equipment.
  • Certain tasks may require use of a respirator; medical clearance will be required in advance. #LI-CS1 #LI-Onsite
