Alex de Alvarez

Alex de Alvarez's work experience includes positions in a variety of industries and roles. They have held the role of Director, Global Security at Ultragenyx since 2023. Before that, they worked as a Global Security Advisor at Innova Solutions from 2021 to 2023. Prior to that, they worked as a Global Security Advisor at DGW Advisory LLC from 2020 to 2021.

Alex also has experience in corporate security, having served as Vice President, Corporate Security at Fluor Corporation from 2013 to 2020, and as Vice President, Corporate Security at Apache Corporation from 2007 to 2013. They also have experience in government roles, working as Director, Energy Assurance at the U.S. Department of Energy from 2004 to 2007, and as Chief of Operations, Infrastructure Protection at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security from 2002 to 2004.

Earlier in their career, Alex worked as a Director at Kroll, a leading global provider of risk solutions, from 1997 to 2000. They also served as a Foreign Service Officer at the U.S. Department of State from 1990 to 1997. Their career began in the U.S. Marine Corps, where they served as an Infantry Officer from 1984 to 1990.

Alex de Alvarez, CISM has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and Government from The University of Dallas, obtained between 1980 and 1984. Furthermore, they hold a Master's degree in Politics from The University of Dallas, acquired in 1989. In 2005 and 2006, Alex de Alvarez attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology as a Fellow in Seminar XXI, where they studied National Security Policy Studies. Additionally, they have obtained the Certified Information Security Manager (CISM) certification from ISACA in January 2020 and will be completing the WSET Level 3 certification from the Wine & Spirit Education Trust in 2023.
