Khadija Shafiq

Khadija Shafiq is a PhD candidate at the University of Michigan specializing in medicinal chemistry, with a focus on the systematic discovery of plant natural products for lung cancer therapeutics. Experience includes roles as a researcher and program assistant, supporting the Interdisciplinary Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) program. Prior positions include serving as an outreach and assessment associate, mentoring community college students at California State Polytechnic University-Pomona, and conducting research on vaccine formulations as an undergraduate research fellow. Additional experience includes working as a laboratory technician at Curative Inc. during the COVID-19 pandemic, serving as a peer mentor in the Achieve Scholars Program, and facilitating academic excellence workshops in organic chemistry. Khadija holds a Bachelor of Science in Biotechnology from California State Polytechnic University-Pomona and is pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy in Medicinal Chemistry at the University of Michigan.
