Kathy Michels

Kathy Michels is a Principal Scientist at Umoja Biopharma, with a focus on research related to host defense against bacterial and fungal pneumonia, particularly examining the role of iron regulation in these infections. Prior to this position, Kathy held various scientific roles at Umoja Biopharma from May 2020, and served as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Michigan Medical School from December 2017 to May 2020. Kathy's academic background includes a Ph.D. in Microbiology, Immunology, and Cancer from the University of Virginia, where also earned a Master’s Degree in Biological and Physical Sciences. Additionally, Kathy has experience as a Graduate Student at the University of Virginia and worked as an Outdoor Instructor at Calleva Outdoors and a Laboratory Teaching Assistant at St. Mary’s College of Maryland.
