Åsa Jonsson

Åsa Jonsson has extensive work experience in the field of human settlements and development coordination. Åsa currently holds the position of Head of Global Water Operator's Alliance (GWOPA) at UN-Habitat. Prior to this, they served as the Head of Office/Senior Development Coordination Officer at the UN Resident Coordinators Office in Albania.

Throughout their career, Åsa has held various roles within UN-Habitat, including Chief a.i of the Strategic Planning, Monitoring, and Reporting Branch, where they led the organization's monitoring and reporting efforts. Åsa also managed the Urban Agenda Platform operations and global partnerships, an online platform for reporting and sharing actions on urban-related Sustainable Development Goals.

Åsa has experience as a Coordinator for the Russia and Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) region, overseeing high-level missions and activities in multiple countries. Åsa has also served as the Chief of the Best Practices Unit and the Unit Leader of the Project Formulation Unit at UN-Habitat.

Before joining UN-Habitat, Åsa worked at the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) as an Associate Economic Affairs Officer and an Associate Social Affairs Officer. In these roles, they managed regional technical assistance projects and capacity development programs on human settlements, youth, and poverty reduction.

Additionally, Åsa has worked at Family Care International as a Programme Associate in the Safe Motherhood Programme and at the Megacities Project as a Programme Associate for Habitat II. Åsa also has experience as a Consultant at the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs, focusing on gender statistics.

Overall, Åsa Jonsson has a strong background in coordinating development projects and initiatives related to human settlements, water management, and youth development.

Åsa Jonsson has studied Political and Economic Development/Public Health at Columbia University, with a focus on MIA International Relations. Åsa has also pursued Population Studies at The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), earning a BSc degree. Additionally, they have undertaken a Master of Science (MSc) program in Urban Development Planning at UCL.
