Lucia Elmi has held various leadership roles at UNICEF since September 1998, currently as a Representative, leading the Country Programme of Cooperation for Tajikistan and previously for Mauritania. Elmi has been instrumental in developing and managing peace-building initiatives, resilience programmes, and advocating for children's rights at the highest political levels. Additional experiences include serving as Chief of the Humanitarian Field Support Section and Emergency Specialist, where strategic coordination and policy development for humanitarian responses were key focuses. Elmi's earlier work includes significant contributions in Kosovo and Indonesia, emphasizing monitoring and evaluation, emergency preparedness, and the implementation of early childhood development programmes. Educational qualifications include a Master’s Degree in Political Science from Alma Mater Studiorum – Università di Bologna and Development Studies from the University of Sussex.
