Patricia Varela Benzo is a seasoned Human Rights Officer at the United Nations Human Rights since October 2010, specializing in sustainable human development and supporting various mandates, including extreme poverty and human rights. Extensive experience includes strategic advice, report preparation, country visits, and engagement with civil society organizations and UN entities across Africa and the Americas. Previous roles involve serving as a Human Rights Expert at the Permanent Mission of Spain to the UN and interning at both the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights and Linklaters. Patricia holds a Master of Laws with a specialization in human rights from the University of London and has a comprehensive educational background, including degrees from Universidad Pontificia Comillas and Sciences Po, among others.
