Sameer Lalwani

Senior Expert, Asia Center at United States Institute of Peace

Sameer Lalwani is a Senior Expert at the Asia Center of the United States Institute of Peace, a position held since September 2022. Prior to this role, Sameer served in various capacities at The Stimson Center from August 2015 to September 2022, including Senior Fellow focusing on Asia Strategy, Director of the South Asia Program, and Deputy Director of the South Asia Program. Sameer also held the position of Stanton Nuclear Security Postdoctoral Fellow at RAND Corporation from September 2014 to August 2015 and worked as a Non-Resident Research Fellow and Policy Analyst at New America from August 2005 to July 2015. Additionally, from July 2012 to August 2014, Sameer was a Predoctoral Fellow at the Institute for Security & Conflict Studies at George Washington University. Sameer achieved a Doctor of Philosophy in Political Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology between 2008 and 2014 and holds a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science from the University of California, Berkeley, obtained in 2005. Early education was completed at Bellarmine College Preparatory, graduating in 2001.
