Erin McSweeney

Erin McSweeney was named executive vice president and chief of staff to the CEO, UnitedHealth Group, in March 2021. In this role, McSweeney helps advance UnitedHealth Group’s strategic enterprise goals, drive a common understanding and framework of the company’s operating principles, and enable leadership alignment and visibility. With more than 35 years as a human resource professional, she is an experienced strategic change agent with a track record of elevating organizational performance and strengthening cultural values. Prior to assuming the chief of staff role, McSweeney was the executive vice president (EVP) and chief human resources officer (CHRO) of Optum for four years. Prior to joining Optum, she was EVP and CHRO for the Fortune 200 company, EMC Corporation (now Dell Technologies). Prior to being named head of Human Resources for EMC, she held various senior level HR roles in many areas of the organization throughout her 11 years with the company, including CHRO at VCE – a joint venture of EMC, Cisco and VMWare, and now a full business unit within EMC. Throughout her career, she held several other CHRO roles in various industries including startups and turnarounds.
