Steven Boakes

Steven Boakes has over 25 years of work experience in various roles within the pharmaceutical and academic sectors. Steven currently serves as the Head of Business Partnerships and Knowledge Exchange at the University of Bath, where they are responsible for managing collaborations between industry and academia. Prior to this, Steven worked as an Industrial Partnerships Manager at the University of Bath, where they identified opportunities for collaborations, managed grant allocations, and organized industrial networking activities.

Before joining the University of Bath, Steven worked at Cantab Anti-infectives Ltd as the Head of Microbiology and Deputy Project Manager. In this role, they led a team of microbiologists and played a key role in evaluating lead compounds and managing research projects.

Steven also has experience at Novacta Biosystems Ltd as an Associate Director, where they conducted research on antibiotics and contract research for external clients. Steven was involved in designing innovative genetic systems and successfully identified a new lantibiotic.

Additionally, Steven worked at GSK as a Senior Scientist and at GlaxoWellcome as a Research Scientist earlier in their career. At GSK, they focused on scientific research, and at GlaxoWellcome, they were part of a team involved in strain improvement campaigns.

Steven Boakes completed their Bachelor of Science degree in Biology at the University of Portsmouth from 1992 to 1995. Steven then pursued a PhD in Molecular Biology at the University of Cambridge from 1999 to 2002.
