Mark Searcey

Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Faculty of Science) at University of East Anglia

Mark joined UEA in 2006 and since April 2019 as a Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the Faculty of Science.

Mark is Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Science and leads a faculty that balances excellence in research and teaching across its seven Schools, which range from Biological Sciences to the new School of Engineering. Mark is also Professor of Medicinal Chemistry and arrived at UEA in 2006, when he joined the new School of Pharmacy. He has also served as head of the School of Pharmacy and of the School of Chemistry.

Mark's research group designs and makes new molecules to target cancer and inflammatory diseases, with a particular emphasis on targeting DNA or protein-protein interactions. The group has been funded by BBSRC, EPSRC, MRC, the EU, World-wide Cancer Research, the local cancer charities Big C, PDT Norfolk and the Anthony Long Trust and by industry.
