Michael Schwartz

Michael Schwartz is an experienced wildlife biologist and academic currently serving as the Program Manager for the Wildlife and Terrestrial Ecosystems Program at USDA's Forest Service, Rocky Mountain Research Station, where leadership involves managing a diverse team focused on conservation science. In addition to this role, Schwartz directs the USFS National Genomics Center for Wildlife and Fish Conservation, enhancing research capabilities in genetic analysis for species monitoring. As an Adjunct Full Professor at the University of Montana, Schwartz advises Ph.D. students, demonstrating commitment to education and research. Previous experience includes leading the Conservation Genetics Team at the USFS Rocky Mountain Research Station and acting as Director of the Aldo Leopold Wilderness Research Institute. Educational qualifications include a Ph.D. in Wildlife Biology with a focus on Conservation Genetics from the University of Montana, complemented by advanced studies at Harvard Kennedy School and other institutions.
