Tom Thompson

Trustee at University of Northwestern-St Paul

Tom Thompson devoted his career to farming and seed genetics—eventually retiring as the General Manager of NuTech Seed in 2013.

Thompson received his Bachelor of Science in Agronomy/Farm Operation and Master of Science in Plant Genetics from Iowa State University.

In 1978, Thompson took over the management of his family farm in Forest City, IA. With a self-described entrepreneurial spirit, he began Thompson Seeds in 1985 and then NuTech Seed in 2001. He successfully expanded NuTech Seed throughout the Midwest—expanding to 10 states by 2010. Thompson also started ProSoy Genetics and expanded the business over the years until selling the company in 2012.

He has been married to his wife Becki for 43 years and together they have three sons and twelve grandchildren.
