Joey Derrick has a diverse work experience at the University of South Carolina. Joey started their career as a Financial Aid Counselor, providing counseling and guidance to students and parents on various financial aid processes. Joey then moved on to the role of Information Specialist, where they coordinated the implementation of federal and state mandates related to financial aid programs. Joey later became the Senior Assistant Director of Information Resources, overseeing technological initiatives and managing the office computing network for the successful administration of over $250 million in student financial aid. Joey then progressed to the position of Associate Director, responsible for supervising the verification process, Pell Grant awards, and various administrative tasks. Joey eventually became the Senior Associate Director, leading all operations of the Office of Student Financial Aid and Scholarships, processing over 40,000 aid applications and awards totaling over $400 million annually. In their most recent role as AVP for Enrollment Management and Director, they led the office in administering over $450 million in aid and served as the Financial Aid Subject Matter Expert during the implementation of an ERP initiative.

Joey Derrick earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration with a focus on Finance from the University of South Carolina, where they studied from 1993 to 1997. Later, they pursued a Master of Business Administration degree at the same university from 1998 to 2000. In 2020, Joey obtained the Certified Financial Aid Administrator (FAAC) certification from the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (NASFAA).
