Glen Coleman

Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic Affairs at University of Southern Queensland

Glen commenced at UniSQ in July 2017 in the position of Executive Dean, Faculty of Health, Engineering and Sciences. In January 2022, Glen was appointed to the position of Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic Affairs). Prior to his appointment to UniSQ , Glen was Head of School and Dean of Veterinary Science at the University of Queensland’s Gatton Campus. His key achievement in that role was building a strong team of academic and professional staff that enabled other successes such as the establishment of UQ VETS as one of Queensland’s largest providers of referral veterinary services, growth in philanthropic support for the School’s mission, and international recognition for the School’s research and its graduates. Under his leadership, the UQ School became the highest ranked veterinary school in the southern hemisphere (Shanghai Global Ranking of Academic Subjects, 2017). He also held other leadership roles at UQ, including Associate Dean (Academic) in the Faculty of Science and the Faculty of Natural Resources, Agriculture & Veterinary Science. In these roles, he gained experience in managing major reviews of L&T policies and programs, recruitment pathways, external accreditation, and leading change management initiatives.

Glen is a veterinarian by training and practised in Townsville, the UK and at various clinics in south-east Queensland before being appointed lecturer in veterinary parasitology at the University of Queensland. In 2005 he received a University of Queensland (UQ) Excellence in Teaching Award and in 2007 he was the recipient of a Carrick Award for Australian University Teaching Excellence in the field of biological science, health and related fields. His research interests include parasitic diseases of companion animals, with a focus on drug resistance, and the scholarship of teaching and learning.

Glen has held various leadership roles in the veterinary profession, including President of the Queensland Division of the Australian Veterinary Association, Deputy Chair of the Queensland Veterinary Surgeons Board and chair of the Council of Veterinary Deans of Australia and New Zealand.
