David Barrett

Director, Apprenticeships at University of the West of England

David Barrett is the Director of Apprenticeships at the University of the West of England. Prior to this, they were the Assistant Director at the Office for Fair Access from July 2004 to March 2018. In this role, they were responsible for the oversight and leadership of all OFFA's functions, including regulatory operations and policy, strategy and change, evidence and effective practice, data and analysis, comms and stakeholder relations, finance, governance and administration. David also represented OFFA in top-line relationships with government ministers, sector CEOs and across a range of strategic partnerships.

From 2002 to 2004, Barrett was the Senior Policy Adviser for Widening Participation at the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE). Prior to that, they were the Director of Apprenticeships at the University of the West of England from 1998 to 2002. In this role, they were responsible for admissions, recruitment and marketing for the university's apprenticeship programmes.

David Barrett attended Lancaster University, where they received a Bachelor of Arts in David'story. David also studied at Avon County Adult Education and Monks Park School.

They work with Paul Olomolaiye - Pro Vice-Chancellor, Equalities & Civic Engagement, Chris Melhuish - Assistant Vice-Chancellor, Technology Partnerships, and Jo Midgley - Registrar & Pro Vice-Chancellor, Student Experience. David Barrett reports to Steven West, Vice-Chancellor, President & CEO.
