Mark Pitsch

Director Media Relations at University of Wisconsin System

Mark Pitsch has a diverse work experience spanning various industries. Mark started their career as a Humor Columnist at The Onion in 1988. Mark then worked as a Washington Editor at Education Week from 1990 to 1996. Later, they explored their skills as a Filmmaker at DMZ Media from 1998 to 2000. In 2000, they became a Higher Education and Government Reporter at The Courier-Journal, where they received several awards for their reporting. Mark joined the Wisconsin State Journal in 2006, initially as a Government/Politics Reporter and eventually becoming an Assistant City Editor. During their time at the Wisconsin State Journal, they managed a team of reporters and oversaw coverage of various topics such as state government, education, and environment. In 2011, they became the President of the Society of Professional Journalists, Madison pro chapter, where they worked as a volunteer leader and promoted professional ethics in journalism. Most recently, they worked at the University of Wisconsin System, first as a Strategic Communications Manager and then as the Director of Media Relations, where they developed and executed communications strategies and provided counsel to senior executives.

Mark Pitsch attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison from 1984 to 1989. During this time, they pursued a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism and History.
