Portfolio Director, Africa Region at URC

Wendy Castro, MHS has a varied and extensive work experience spanning several organizations and roles. Currently, they serve as the Portfolio Director for Southern, Eastern, and Central Africa at University Research Co., LLC (URC) & Center for Human Services (CHS), a position they have held since May 2021. Prior to that, they worked at Save the Children from 2013 to 2021, initially as a Senior Specialist focusing on Adolescent Sexual & Reproductive Health, and later as a Senior Specialist in Programs. From 2004 to 2013, Wendy held multiple roles at FHI 360, including Acting Project Director/Senior Program Officer and International Fellow in the Botswana Office. Earlier in their career, they worked at PATH as a Program Associate/Technical Writer and at the Child Welfare League of America as a Program Coordinator for Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention. Wendy also gained experience as a Program Assistant at the American Association of Children's Residential Centers and as a Child Behavior Specialist at the Julia Dyckman Andrus Memorial organization. Overall, Wendy Castro brings expertise in program management, adolescent health, and international development to their current role as Portfolio Director.

Wendy Castro, MHS has a Master's degree in Health Science with a focus on Population & Family Health Sciences. Wendy earned this degree from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, where they studied from 1999 to 2000. Prior to their Master's degree, Wendy completed their undergraduate education at Cornell University - College of Human Ecology. Wendy obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Development and Family Studies, studying from 1990 to 1994.
