Dave Hughes is the Director of Communications and Marketing at the University Settlement Society of New York. Dave has extensive experience in communications, marketing, and public relations, having worked in a variety of industries including education and advocacy.
Most recently, Dave was the Managing Director of Communications and Marketing at Broome Street Academy Charter High School, where they oversaw external communications, managed brand messaging, and oversaw digital media campaigns. Dave also supervised a team of three direct reports in social media, graphic design, and communications.
During their time at Broome Street Academy, Dave led communications strategy that contributed to revenue growth of 67% over four years. Dave also created a new brand positioning and led a redesign of the website and marketing collateral, which resulted in 125% web audience growth over two years. In addition, Dave secured $250K in grant funding from the Gill Foundation to create an advocacy campaign focused on economic opportunity for LGBT+ people.
Before their work in education, Dave worked as a public relations consultant for a number of years. Dave has advised global businesses on their communications strategies and helped them to engage with the public on important issues. Dave has also conducted original market research in partnership with FCB, a global ad agency, and authored Visibility Counts, the first white paper documenting global corporations’ efforts to create HR systems for voluntary LGBT+ self-ID.
Dave Hughes has a B.A. in English & American Literature from New York University and a bachelors degree from UC San Diego.
