Simon Peter Onyango has extensive work experience in the field of protection and humanitarian principles, with a particular focus on supporting Palestine refugees. Simon Peter has held various roles at UNRWA, including Senior Area Support Officer and Acting Senior Area Support Officer, where they were responsible for managing the protection and neutrality department and providing advisory and capacity building services to staff members. Simon also worked as an Area Support Officer in Syria and as an Operations Support Officer in the West Bank, where they gained experience in protection, humanitarian access, and neutrality. Prior to their work at UNRWA, Simon served as an Associate Field Protection Officer at UNHCR in Darfur, Sudan, and as an Assistant Legal Officer at the Norwegian Refugee Council. Simon Peter began their career as a Legal Assistant at Kalenge, Bwanika, Kimuli & Co. Advocates, where they were involved in drafting legal documents and conducting legal audits.

Simon Peter Onyango has a strong education background in the field of law. Simon Peter obtained a Bachelor of Laws degree from Makerere University between 2001 and 2005, where they focused on legal studies. Following this, they pursued a Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice at the Law Development Centre from 2005 to 2006, specializing in legal practice and the bar course. Simon Peter further enhanced their legal expertise by completing a Master of Laws (LLM) degree at the University of London from 2010 to 2012, with a specialization in Human Rights Law. During their LLM program, their studies focused on various aspects, including international refugee law, international child rights, the rights of women, and the law of treaties.
