The opportunity: UK or EU Locations

Uphold is looking for a Senior Engineer to join our Labs team. We are a small engineering group focused on building innovative on-chain products and services with support from the broader product, design and QA groups. This is an exciting opportunity where you’ll get to focus on building and improving our consumer and business APIs and the many microservices powering our web and mobile applications. 

If you are excited about on-chain products, complex UI.UX requirements, scalability problems, automated workflows, infrastructure orchestration, and protocols like GraphQL and gRPC, Uphold is the place for you!

What you’ll be doing primarily:

• Building cutting edge crypto products to help onboard millions of people to the most powerful, easy to use payment platform in the world.

• Delivering new features and enhancements to our existing products and platform.

• Working closely with the Frontend and Mobile Engineering teams to integrate frontend UI.

• Collaborating with product managers, designers, engineers and other project stakeholders throughout the software development life cycle (planning, design, implementation, deployment and support).

• Helping the team keep up-to-date with the tech stack ecosystem.

• Writing high quality code with performance and scalability in mind.

• Working on integrating with new and emerging blockchains and cryptographic protocols.

• Working on a microservice architecture, aiming for security and scalability.

Required qualifications:

• Knowledge of fundamental blockchain principles.

• Knowledge of core blockchain services such as Parity, Geth or Bitcoind.

• Experience in integrating with blockchains.

• Knowledge of cryptographic protocols, services and providers.

• Experience with Node.js, TypeScript and other frameworks.

• Spent lots of quality time coding, deeply learning the powerful idioms and important idiosyncrasies of multiple programming languages and their ecosystems. We like to code mostly in JavaScript (node.js), Python, Golang and C/C++.

• Strong understanding of relational (preferably PostgreSQL) and/or non-relational databases (e.g. Redis).

• Knowledge of revision control systems.

• Basic knowledge of standard development pipelines, including build and other automation tools.

• Fluent written and oral English skills.

Bonus if you have:

• Experience in working on blockchain projects like DeFi, staking or lightning network.
• Experience in developing APIs for other products you’ve worked on.
• Experience in integrating APIs from other services providers.
• Community talks, certifications, and/or blog posts on your interests and research.
• Open source project contributions of any kind, such as tools developed to solve specific problems you’ve had or fixing issues on existing projects.
• Developing software interacting with message queues (e.g. Kafka, NSQ, Pulsar or RabbitMQ).
