Darren Hickey has a diverse work experience in the energy industry, primarily focusing on fuel cell technology and energy storage. Darren is currently working as the VP of Fuel Cell Technology at Upstart Power, Inc. Before joining Upstart Power, they worked at Cummins Inc. as the Director of Fuel Cell Technology from 2018 to 2021.

Prior to their role at Cummins Inc., Darren held multiple positions at GE, including Product Design Leader, Principal Engineer, and Stack Design Leader. During their time at GE, they played a crucial role in developing the next generation of high-efficiency SOFC stack and system products for distributed power generation.

Darren also served as the Director of Engineering at Halotechnics, Inc. and as the Director of Stack Technology and Co-Founder at EnerVault Corporation. Darren's career in the energy industry began at Bloom Energy, where they were a principal engineer and a part of the founding team. Darren played a key role in building the company's first prototype stack and managed a DOE program to demonstrate regenerative fuel cell technology for energy storage.

Darren'scareer started at Ceramic Fuel Cells Limited, where they worked as a Senior Engineer and led the Advanced Product Development Team. Darren was involved in the development of solid oxide fuel cell stacks and successfully demonstrated anode-supported and electrolyte-supported stacks.

Darren Hickey completed their Bachelor of Engineering (BE) degree in Mechanical & Manufacturing from the University of Melbourne, from 1989 to 1992. Darren later pursued a Master of Science (MS) degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Arizona, from 2000 to 2002.
