Mireille Lopez-Humes

Greater DC Executive Director at Urban Alliance

Mireille joins Urban Alliance as the Greater DC Executive Director after working as the Deputy Chief Program Officer at Martha’s Table, where she oversaw all education and healthy eating initiatives and actively contributed to Martha’s Table’s strategy development.

Mireille has spent over 20 years in education, both as a teacher and as a school administrator. Before moving into administration, she taught in the District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS), Boston Public Schools, and Prince George’s County schools. Mireille was chosen as an Assistant Principal to participate in The New Leaders for New Schools Leadership Development Program, which aims to develop strong educational leaders. She worked as a principal in DCPS for five years, serving students and families in Ward 8 at one of the District’s highest priority elementary schools.

Under her leadership as principal, student achievement increased in both math and reading, and student satisfaction improved significantly. Her school was one of the five schools selected by the Presidential Committee on the Arts and Humanities to participate in the Turnaround Art school program, a partnership created by President Obama to increase arts education programs in low-performing schools. Through this partnership, she developed a summer camp to expose students to the arts and increase literacy instruction for students. In 2015, Mireille was one of ten DCPS principals selected to receive a scholarship to the Georgetown Executive Master’s program at the McDonough School of Business.

She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Trinity University, and an Executive Master’s Degree in Leadership from Georgetown University.
