Carol Martsolf

VP & Chief Learning Officer at Urban Engineers

Carol Martsolf, PE, PMP, CPTD, LEED AP, is a firm believer in staying active. Whether that’s adding physical activity to her daily routine – she has completed four marathons – or staying mentally active through developing courses to be offered at the Urban Training Institute, which she leads, Carol enjoys staying busy and pushing herself. She graduated from Temple University with a bachelor’s in civil engineering and worked her first job as an entry-level designer at a consulting firm before making her way to Urban. She has advanced her career here and risen to the level of vice president and chief learning officer. “There’s something about the interest in learning that I see in the people here at Urban,” she said. “The environment is full of enthusiasm.” Carol shares this trait. Beyond just her position at the firm, she is involved in numerous organizations and has taken on leadership roles, including being the Region 2 governor for the American Society of Civil Engineers.

Having had personal professional success, Carol now enjoys assisting her fellow employees and clients pursue success and expand their knowledge through the training institute. “I love seeing people learn and grow in their careers,” she said. As someone who values mentoring and was fortunate to have many mentors herself, Carol is very happy to now be that individual for others. She cares deeply about her students and the opportunities that the institute provides, including professionally experienced instructors, an interactive experience both online and in-person, networking connections, and a learning community that continues to thrive even after the class is over. The opportunities to learn even extend beyond just Urban employees – clients outside the firm and throughout the nation participate in classes at the institute as well. This continuously growing legacy speaks to the success of the institute, and Carol couldn’t be more thankful that this project has become so valuable. “Learning is a beautiful thing because it can’t be taken away from you,” she said, a favorite quote of hers. These words are echoed by her work, which, like Carol herself, continues to push boundaries and strives to be greater, to reach more people, and to spark a desire to learn in everyone it touches.
