Jake Garan

Jake Garan is currently the Lead Optical Engineer at Urban Sky, a position held since September 2021. Prior to this, Jake served as an Optical Engineer at BAE Systems, Inc. from July 2017 to September 2021, focusing on optical designs for airborne platforms. Jake also gained valuable experience as a Student Researcher at the NanoBioPhotonics Group at the University of Houston, where skills included designing systems to characterize small lenses, and utilizing Optical Coherence Tomography for quality control. Earlier internships include a Summer Student Intern role at the University of Hawaii's Advanced Technology Research Center, performing wavefront analysis and building a CNC Laser cutting machine, as well as work as a Student Worker in the University of Arizona Optomechanics Lab, where duties involved machining and maintenance of optical equipment. Jake Garan holds a degree in Optical Sciences and Engineering from the University of Arizona, earned between 2013 and 2017.
