Jan Haarhuis is an Educationalist and teacher of Mathematics and Physics. During his career at Utrecht University he held various positions with a focus on educational innovation and change.
Since 2019 he has been participating in the development of CHARM-EU a new European University and a member of the steering committee, the Project Management Team and the Work package leader Teaching and Learning Strategies.
Jan is the Chair of the Digital Education Group of the League of European Research Intensive Universities LERU, which brings together experts from across the LERU network to focus on Institutional Perspective; Future and Emerging Technologies (AR, VR, AI), Academic Development and Collaborative Research. The group organized the first blended conference ‘Digital Higher Education Summit’ in November 2018.
Jan became programme manager Education and ICT for Utrecht University in 2013 and was responsible for the projects: E-assessment; E-lectures; Learning Management System and headed a Vision Education and ICT Committee for Utrecht University.
In 2007 and 2014, he was a member of the steering committee responsible for the Self-Study report and preparation of the site visit of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA) and the European Association of Establishments of Veterinary Education (EAEVA).
From 2009 to 2013 Jan was responsible for the implementation of a new three-year Master’s programme in Veterinary Medicine, part of which included the implementation of programmatic/longitudinal assessment system. In 2005 he became Head of the Department of Education and Student Affairs and head of Education Policy and was involved in the EU-project NOVICE (Network of Veterinarians in Continuing Education) and finally chair of this EU-project.
