Thomas S. has a diverse work experience spanning over several organizations and roles. Currently, they serve as the Associate Vice President for Research Operations at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. Prior to this, they held the position of Interim Executive Vice President for Research at the same university.

Before joining The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, Thomas worked as a Lecturer at Johns Hopkins University's Krieger School of Arts & Sciences, specifically in the Advanced Academic Programs. Thomas S. received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Interdisciplinary Studies (BAIS) with a focus on Computer/Information Technology Administration and Management from The University of Texas at Dallas in 2002. Thomas then pursued an Executive Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the Naveen Jindal School of Management at UT Dallas, completing it in 2008. Thomas went on to complete a residency in Executive Management at Grenoble Ecole de Management. In 2012, they obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Public Affairs from The University of Texas at Dallas. Thomas also participated in a Summer Case Study on Healthcare Policy in South Korea at the University of Seoul. Additionally, Thomas has obtained various certifications, including Artificial Intelligence and Business Strategy from LinkedIn, CRC Advanced and Human Subjects Research from the CITI Program, and Group on Information Resources (GIR) Fellow from the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC). Thomas also holds a Certified Change Management Professional (CCMP) certification from Prosci and an ITIL Foundation in IT Service Management certification from PeopleCert.
